Help and advice on quitting smoking


  • Increase your resistance: exercise, get enough sleep, do relaxation exercises.
  • Tackle the causes of the problem: learn to say "no" to requests to avoid being overwhelmed with things to do. Do not take substances that can trigger psychiatric manifestations (there is scientific evidence that cannabis increases the occurrence of psychiatric symptoms such as anxiety and hallucinations). When anxiety is due to smoking cessation, use medication which combats withdrawal symptoms (this would be a more logical choice than tranquilizers). Do not forget that the effectiveness may decrease if the dose is inadequate. If the anxiety persists, see a doctor to look for other possible causes.
  • As a diversion:  see the people with whom you get along really well, do fun activities. Accept that we cannot run permanent diversions and that the problem must be tackled.
